TRI ISTORII consists of three stories about murderers, about senseless crimes without punishment or consequence, three immoral episodes narrated one after the other in which four people are killed almost in passing. The intertitles that appear between the episodes make ironic reference to works of European high culture (Chekhov, Shakespeare and Schubert) – one of the many devices intended to irritate that Muratova incorporates into her difficult-to-grasp film. “I don’t like men. I don’t like women. I don’t like children. I would give this planet the worst grade”, declares the protagonist Ofa before she first kills a woman who gives away her new-born baby and later her own mother, who abandoned her as a child. With its explosive interweaving of lust and violence, THREE STORIES is a disturbing report of human coexistence. (al)
